Finding Freedom

Collage

About the Piece

Finding Freedom is a layered collage exploring the interplay between identity, evolution, and the pursuit of autonomy. Its composition is built from fragmented phrases, anatomical diagrams, and found imagery—cowboys, wildflowers, and cellular structures—all orbiting the central idea of transformation. Phrases like “our wild side” and “evolution” invite a sense of motion and momentum, while others like “life” and “for once peek across the line” suggest moments of reflection and rebellion.

At its center is a human-shaped void, a silhouette formed not by addition, but by absence. This blank space becomes a metaphor for possibility—an invitation to step into the self with clarity, intention, and openness. It marks the quiet but radical decision to evolve beyond the narratives we’ve inherited.

Though Finding Freedom now forms the backdrop of Finding the First Breath, it holds its own as a visual reckoning with what it means to change, to claim your space, and to move forward unbound. It is the moment before action—the breath before the leap.
